Open Food Facts derived data
This page is NibbleCheck’s Open Database Licence offer: a machine-readable copy of the part of our catalogue that comes from Open Food Facts.
The files
- products.ndjson.gz — 178,625 products. Barcode, name, brand, quantity, categories, label tags, allergen and trace ids, Open Food Facts image URL, last synced.
- product_versions.ndjson.gz — 90,250 ingredient records, keyed by barcode. Ingredients, declared allergens and precautionary text, and where each record came from.
Newline-delimited JSON, gzipped. One object per line, so they stream without loading whole. manifest.json gives each file’s row count, SHA-256 digest and build date.
Text read from photos
Where Open Food Facts has a photo of a product’s ingredients panel but no text, we read the text from that photo by machine. Those records have the source off_photo_ocr, name the photo they were read from, and carry the reader’s confidence. They come from Open Food Facts’ photographs, so they’re offered here under the same licence. Machine reading makes mistakes, so check a record against its photo before you rely on it.

This extract is offered under ODbL v1.0 as well. You may share it, adapt it and build on it, including commercially, provided you attribute it, keep any adapted database open under the same licence, and don’t use technical measures to stop others doing the same.
What isn’t here, and why
Work authored by NibbleCheck and the people who use it is excluded, because it isn’t derived from Open Food Facts:
- Ingredient text verified by our community verification network
- Photos of packs taken by people using NibbleCheck
- The NibbleCheck allergen knowledge base, confidence engine and per-child logic
Product images aren’t here either. The image URL in each product record points to the photo hosted by Open Food Facts; the photos themselves aren’t in this extract. They’re licensed separately by the photographers who took them, under CC BY-SA.
